"There will be no drinking of beer when the bats come" THE COLONEL, lecturing his posse during the parade of nations
ESTA NOCHE WE RIDE! is an album by Portland, OR band Los Mex Pistols del Norte way before it was a film by Jay Edwards. I contacted them to get permission to use their music in my film and they said that since they haven't been persued to pay royalties to the songs they cover, they wouldn't persue us for using their songs. For the creature in this film, I tried to create a more human shaped monster, rather than the cone- and rectangle-shapes for the previous 2 films. I bought thinner furniture foam and used a clothing pattern to cut it into a tunic-type top and pants. I free-formed the head, using street hockey balls for the yellow eyes. In searching for fabric this time, I loved the fuzzy texture of this stuff. In the end I think this is the least scary and most cuddly monster, hence it's nickname, the Teddy Bear Monster. The hands are from a Catworman costume and the feet are the same fuzzy boots from MOUNTAIN... The space bats are rubber bats from Distortions Unlimited, suspended from PVC poles and fishing line. For the desert scenes in the first third of the film, Jon, Terri, Shana and I went on vacation to Las Vegas. We weren't sure what the airline was gonna say about a duffle bag full of cap guns and PVC pipe, but it wasn't a problem. The rest of the film was shot just outside of Great Smokey Mountains National Park, TN, all within about 100 yards of the house we rented. Due to car trouble and rainy weather, we shot all the mountain scenes in about 6 hours, spread out over 3 days. I guess that's not including the peyote scene which we spent several hours taking turns on the vomit machine. |
